workspace to studio...

The workspace/studio is gradually coming together, after years of being little more than a storage space for building materials and books with no home... The mdf working wall is up and we'd hope to get the rest of the stored paintings sorted and a coat or two of primer on it over the weekend... So... - an exciting image of a bare white wall is in prospect..!

Meanwhile, as we can't toil for 24 hours a day, a walk up and over to March Haigh reservoir (by way of the old packhorse track), was slotted in the other afternoon... with the ever-shifting, season-touched landscape, looking as wonderful as ever...

Above Marsden, with late afternoon light.

and in the beginning (part 2)...

we (MZ) picked up the thread here in Scotland... where we are at the moment... and we gazed out of a different window...

Oban Bay evening

How these pages unfold remains to be seen... as does the consequences of us both trying to edit or add posts at the same moment from two different computers..! ...but we'll try to cross all bridges presented in the correct order... unless of course we find ourselves thinking that ''the order'' would be better re-arranged...

And as a note to any language students we have both decided to use the first-person plural pronoun 'we', because we feel these pages are a shared event... Sometimes created from within a shared physical space... and sometimes from separate ones... but always from a shared creative and emotional perspective...

in the beginning...

we (HS) uploaded an image and gazed at the screen...

Being totally new to blogging, we wondered both where to begin and how... so we reverted to ancient remedies for a moment, and looked out of the window... then we sprang into a  form of 'action'... and made a cup of tea...

These pages will - we hope (and in a manner of speaking...) chronicle the start of work at the studio in Warehouse Hill Road... work that started way back in 1966 in some ways, at St.Martin's School of Art in London... or maybe even earlier... around 1950, in Leeds...

We could try and start at the beginning, but that would be rather tedious... so we'll start with the moment... the present... which of course, by the time the word is written... has already become the past...

But it's nearly lunchtime and the new working wall at the studio needs at least it's first coat of paint... so we'll get on with 'doing', and leave these ramblings for later on this evening perhaps...

However, to set some part of the scene here in Marsden at least... there is snow on the top of Shooter's Nab, and a watery sun on the bare branches of the tree... Maybe later on tonight, with the sound of a fire in the grate, the view from the desk window may look more like this...
